Abstract

This study examines the ability of industrial engineering students to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their learning process, focusing on the units of Engineering Economics and Statistics. A survey was conducted among 100 students of Industrial Engineering Administration at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León to gather data on their perception and use of AI, particularly the ChatGPT tool. The results revealed that, although there is initially a lack of knowledge on how to fully leverage AI tools, students exhibit a positive attitude towards their incorporation into learning. Moreover, they recognize the importance of acquiring skills in handling these tools to enhance their understanding and academic performance. This study underscores the need to continue exploring and developing strategies for the effective integration of AI in engineering education, aiming to prepare students for the challenges of an increasingly technological industry.
