Nowadays, educational institutions are changing their study programs along with the modalities in which they are delivered to adapt to labor market needs. As a result, new learning units are focused on the use of information technologies, as these are revolutionizing the way people transmit the information required to develop a product or service. For this research, the subject of study is the industrial engineering student, who, as an agent of change, must acquire the competencies that allow them to perform effectively in their current professional field. During meetings with various stakeholders, it has been emphasized that industrial engineers must demonstrate competence in the use of IT for handling large amounts of data. This has impacted the curriculum, which has been modified to include learning units focused on developing these competencies. Additionally, the way these units are delivered has changed. While they were previously offered only in person, today, mixed and asynchronous modalities are available.
In this research project, a measurement instrument was applied to assess whether the change in modality had any effect on students' perception of competency development. The results showed that this change had a favorable impact on their skill development.
